Abstract

Secondary title: Analysis of the influence of the pulsating high pressure coolant supply when turning titanium alloy Ti6Al4V
Secondary abstract: This thesis analyses effects of pulsating high pressure supply of coolant when turning titanium alloy Ti6Al4V on CNC lathe on the machinig process itself. Materials, which are harder to machine (among them titanium alloys), cause problems in cutting processes, due to their hardness, strength and low thermal conductivity. One of the problems is the formation of long chips. With the aim of controlling the formation of chips, a pulsating high pressure coolant supply system was developed at the Laboratory for machining. The purpose of this assignment was to analyse the influence of pulse assisted cooling on chips formation, validate energy consumption and cutting fluid flow rates and to compare the system to the more traditional low pressure an high-pressure coolant delivery systems. The results showed that pulsating high pressure coolant supply is a good alternative to highpressure delivery of coolant, because energy consumption as well as flow can be significantly lower, while at the same time we obtain complete control on the formation of chips.
