magistrsko delo
Abstract
Izhodišči magistrskega dela sta skoraj v celoti prezrto življenje in delo kiparja in črnovojnika Josipa Urbanije (1877-1943). Predstavili bomo ikonografijo spomenikov in njihove oblikovne rešitve. Smrt ni prizanašala niti v zaledju, kjer so Slovenci leta 1917 izgubili pomembno javno osebo, Janeza Evangelista Kreka (1865-1917). Z analizo nekrologov bomo predstavili podobo Janeza Evangelista Kreka ob njegovi smrti, hkrati pa to povezali s postavljanjem njegovega nagrobnega spomenika in poskusom postavitve spomenika v Ljubljani.

The basis of this master thesis is almost entirely neglected life and work of the sculptor and a "Landstrum" soldier Josip Urbanija (1877-1943). He was born in Ljubljana; however, after World War I, he moved permanently in Vienna. Therefore, the Slovenian art history literature left him on margins of research interest. The analysis of his life, opus and style focused on the period up to 1914. Years from 1914 to 1918 present difficult period for almost the entire European and a majority of the world population. World War I cut into people's habits and everyday life, they had to adapt to war conditions. Sculptor Josip Urbanija was called up in the Austrian-Hungary army as a "Landstrum" soldier, however, this had not affected his creativity throughout the war years. In this thesis, we present opportunities for art participation while emphasizing Slovenian experience during that period. Additionally, we focus as "Landstrum" soldiers' experience and Slovenian point of view. Not only fronts but also public monuments have changed the landscape. Monuments commemorate war victims and they serve as a memory of selfless soldiers that fought in the front or rear. Josip Urbanija marked Bosnia with two monuments, nevertheless, war monuments are preserved also in Slovenia; they can be found close to the Soča front. We present monuments' iconography and design solutions. Death shows no mercy in the outskirts, where the Slovenians lost an important person in 1917 - Janez Evangelist Krek (1865-1917). His early leaving from public life resonated in Slovenian newspapers and magazines that attributed to Krek numerous merits for the Slovenian nation. With the analysis of obituaries, we present the image of Janez Evangelist Krek and associate this to the placement of his gravestone and attempts to place his monument in Ljubljana. For the first time, archival materials from the Committee for Krek's monument that are stored in Historical archive in Ljubljana are included in the analysis. |
