Abstract

Secondary title: Fieldwork on the topic of studying waters in geography classes in elementary school
Secondary abstract: In this master's thesis we wanted to examine, on the basis of teaching methods that favor experiential learning, which teaching techniques for gathering information and processing already exist in Slovenian handbooks about field studies of watersheds and to find new teaching approaches to elementary schooling of watersheds. In our work we have relied on the handbook Vodni svet Slovenije (Water World of Slovenia Handbook) and the proceedings Zbornik mednarodne konference Zaživimo z vodo (Proceedings of the International Conference Let's Live with Water). The Handbook analyzed the already existing techniques for the field study of waters and in the Proceedings we got an insight into what techniques teachers use in their work. Based on the findings, we have determined ten new or different field study techniques, which we have not yet found in Slovenian field watershed study manuals. With each technique we wrote down the tools and instructions needed for executing them, and supported them graphically and illustratively with an image or a photograph. For each technique we also wrote down what results students will achieve when they complete a technique. We also added expected learning results that can guide students in their pursuit of their learning goals. All ten techniques were then presented in the handbook Proučevanje voda pri pouku geografije v osnovni šoli (Study of Waters in Geography in Primary School). The manual is intended for field studies of waters in geography lessons in elementary school and contains recommendations for teachers, detailed instructions for implementation, worksheets for students, answers to general questions and a list of recommended literature.
