magistrsko delo

Abstract

Magistrsko delo preučuje uporabo televizijskega zvoka v slovenskem novinarskem prostoru.

Secondary title: Television sound in Television Slovenia's Zrcalo tedna programme
Secondary abstract: The subject of my thesis is an analysis of the television sound use in the Slovenian television journalism. Several experts point out that the creators of television contents follow the flawed assumption of television being mostly a visual medium and consequently often fail to acknowledge the factual importance of content's sound elements, thus emphasizing the visual imagery while neglecting or underestimating the importance of sound. The main goal of my thesis is analysing the use of sound elements - speech, international sound and music - in TV Slovenia news department on the case of Zrcalo tedna weekly news programme, and how the relationship between sound elements was articulated in it in the last ten years. My interviews with journalists, editors and music supervisor, who have all worked on this programme, have led me to conclude that the media creators in question have a very good understanding of the relevance of sound and are using sound elements to fully complement and improve the visual imagery. I have also noticed that in these programmes the international sound is being used regularly – natural sound under in all of them and natural sound full in most of them, as well as sound markers at the beginning of the show and at topic change points. Very often the music, visual imagery and international sound are being combined with the journalist's commentary, while after the year 2011 the use of well-known and popular music pieces has drastically decreased, which could be directly attributed to a more effective and stricter respect of musical pieces creator's copyrights.
