Abstract

Osrednja tema magistrskega dela je umetniško delo ameriške fotografinje Diane Arbus z naslovom Fotografski opus Diane Arbus: voajerizem ali humanizem? Za razumevanje dela Arbusove smo teoretično ovrednotili žanr dokumentarne fotografije s stališča družbene angažiranosti ter ulično fotografijo, ki se je razvila kot veja fotografskega ustvarjanja. Predstavili smo dve ključni fotografski seriji, Magazin Work in Untitled. V namene orisa Arbusinega fotografskega opusa smo vključili seminalno razstavo New Documents. Nadalje smo opredelili pojma humanizem in voajerizem. V ta namen smo izpostavili primere umetniških del, ki so nam omogočali primerjavo enega in drugega pojma. Zaradi estetskih, stilskih in tematskih vzgibov smo delo Arbusove primerjali z deli kasneje odkrite fotografinje Vivian Maier, sicer Arbusine sodobnice. S pomočjo aplicirane metodologije in uporabljenih virov smo analizirali teoretična in praktična izhodišča za razumevanje umetniškega opusa Diane Arbus.

Secondary title: The complete photographic works of Diane Arbus: voyeurism or humanism?
Secondary abstract: The main topic of the master's thesis is the artwork of American photographer Diane Arbus, titled The Complete Photographic Works of Diane Arbus: Voyeurism or Humanism? To better understand Arbus's work, we have theoretically evaluated the genre of documentary photography from the social engagement standpoint, and the street photography which developed as a branch of photographic creation. We have presented two key photographic series, Magazin Work and Untitled. To better portray Arbus's photographic opus, we have included the seminal exhibition New Documents. We then further defined terms humanism and voyeurism. To better portray and compare these two terms, we outlined examples of artworks. Due to the aesthetic, stylistic, and thematic grounds, Arbus's work was compared with works of later discovered photographer Vivian Maier - Arbus's contemporary. Analysis of theoretical and practical basis for understanding the opus of Diane Arbus was made with the help of applied methodology and used sources.
