Abstract

Uvod: Okvara hrbtenjače povzroči okvaro motoričnih in senzoričnih funkcij, kar vpliva na vsa področja človekovega delovanja. Zanimale so nas pridobitve, ovire in doživljanja udeležencev ob rekreativnih dejavnostih.

Secondary title: Group recreational activities for people with spinal cord injury
Secondary abstract: Introduction: Spinal cord injury causes the damage of motoric and sensory functions, which effects the ability to perform any human activity. People with spinal cord injury spend most of their time on performing the activities of daily living so there is not much time left for the recreational activities. Because of the physical and psychological benefits, recreation is very important for the people with spinal cord injury. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to create and perform the program of group recreational activity for the people with spinal cord injury. We were interested in the achievements, obstacles and experiences of the participants in recreational activities. Methods: A case study with people who have spinal cord injury was performed. People with spinal cord injury aged from 57 to 76 years participated in the research. To plan and evaluate the program we selected biomechanical activity analysis, activity analysis by skills and self-evaluation of efficiency and satisfaction with the performance. We have been performing the program for three months once a week with intermediate treatment in the home environment. We evaluated the achievements, obstacles and experiencing the program with a short semi-structured interview. Results: The program consists of breathing techniques, activities for maintain and strengthen muscle strength and mobility of joints and activities to encourage social interaction of the participants. The program of recreational activity enables the maintenance of motor skills for the performance of the activities of daily living. It also enables physical, psychological and social achievements and the achievements that facilitate the activities of daily living. Discussion and conclusion: The awareness of the contribution to recreational activity is very important to promote the participation of the people with spinal cord injury in the recreational activity. To that end, we also produced a manual of the activities as part of the thesis. We will share the manual with the people who have spinal cord injury and present it to the society of paraplegics all over Slovenia. It turns out that from the perspective of occupational therapy treatments this program proves to be a good strategy in the more efficient implementation of activities of daily living.
