magistrsko delo
Abstract
Kljub pomembnosti duševnega zdravja in visoki pojavnosti duševnih motenj sta znanje in ozaveščenost o duševnih motnjah še vedno zelo nizki (Marušič in Temnik, 2009).

Mental health literacy among healthcare workers in two chosen hospitals in Slovenia and Croatia |
Secondary abstract: |
Despite the importance of mental health and the high incidence of mental disorders, knowledge, and awareness of mental disorders are still incredibly low (Marušič in Temnik, 2009). The latter led us to investigate the level of mental health literacy among healthcare professionals in selected hospitals in Slovenia and Croatia and compare them. We aimed to identify the relationship between mental health literacy and individual demographic factors, and we wanted to highlight factors such as the stigmatization of mental disorders and the level of help-seeking. 129 participants from a hospital in Slovenia and 120 participants from a hospital in Croatia participated in our study, with a total average of 41 years. We used the Mental Health Literacy Scale (O'Connor in Casey, 2015), to which we added 2 self - assessment scales. We found that mental health literacy rates are slightly higher among employees in Slovenia than in Croatia and that the dimension of help-seeking is negatively related to the stigmatization of mental disorders. The results of our study show that participants' self-assessment of their literacy is positively correlated with actual literacy. Multiple regression analysis shows that the dimensions of help-seeking and stigmatization were statistically significant predictors of mental health literacy. As we are aware that there are discriminatory and stigmatizing beliefs among healthcare professionals that could be eliminated by more intensive education, the research should be extended to a larger population of healthcare professionals in the future. |
