diplomska naloga
Abstract

Common data environment for design in the construction industry |
Secondary abstract: |
In the thesis we focus on the problem of managing a large amount of interconnected data and thus cooperation between participants in construction projects. It is resolved with the technology of a common data environment, which is based on a common space for data storage and management, which is the basis for effective cooperation between the participants in the project. The aim of the thesis is to present the establishment and operation of such environment in a small Slovenian company and to identify the advantages and disadvantages of using it. The first part of the thesis presents the existing literature and describes the technology that enables the creation of such an environment for cooperation, it also provides guidelines from foreign standards for its optimal functioning and describes existing software solutions that comply with the rules of these standards. With the acquired knowledge, in the second part, on the project of utility arrangement of a one-dwelling house, we demonstrated the usefulness of one of the described programs for establishing a common data environment. We found that the main benefits of using it are greater transparency over data management, easier, faster and more orderly communication between participants and, consequently, better collaboration between them, since all project information and communication between participants is stored in one place, in addition these programs allow us to put in place a pre-prepared robust workflow to ensure that the right information is available to those who need it to continue their work. The main problem, however, is the incompatibility of systems that allow us to collaborate in this way, since there are many different ways to create a common data environment. The solution to this problem could be to apply global and national standards or to establish local project standards. The experience of the present case is that it would be easier for companies to decide to introduce modern technologies if there were clear local guidelines, recommendations or even regulations. |
