Secondary title: | Intratester reliability of the talocrural joint position sense measurement with electrogoniometer |
Secondary abstract: | Background: Impaired proprioception of the talocrural joint causes its instability and decreased balance. Joint position sense is perception of the body segments positions in space during rest. Purpose of the study was to evaluate intra-rater reliability for measurement of the talocrural joint position sense in healthy young subjects. Methods: 30 healthy subjects aged on average 20.7 ± 1.5 years participated in the study. The talocrural joint position sense in three test angles was tested twice in seven-day interval using electrogoniometer (Biometrics SG110). On the basis of absolute errors, the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and 95% confidence interval were calculated. Results: Reliability of the talocrural joint position sense at 40° of plantarflexion was moderate (average: ICC = 0.52; last 3 seconds: ICC = 0.54). Reliability of assessment at 10° degrees of dorsiflexion and at 25° of plantarflexion was low (ICC ≤ 0.4). Conclusions: Intra-rater reliability for measurement of the talocrural joint position sense using electrogoniometer with described procedure is moderate or low. Among other improvements, changes of the procedure to increase of subjects’ concentration would be reasonable. |
