Abstract

Secondary title: System for the active provision of separation in unmanned aerial vehicles
Secondary abstract: Better affordability and versatility are among the main reasons for the increased use of UAV's. With the increase of air traffic arises a new problem of maintaining minimal required separation among all users of airspace. While manned aerial vehicles already have a developed detect and avoid system, there is currently no system for the active provision of separation in the field of UAV's that would allow beyond line of sight flying. This diploma thesis describes the basics of UAV's, describes the detection and avoidance systems present in manned aerial vehicles, and in the last part presents two possible solutions for UAS. One of the solutions is a detection and avoidance system based on sensors. In the field of sensor based systems, the most attention is directed into the new project named U-space which will require a new platform and a redesigned airspace which will help with the integration of UAV's in the airspace. Although sensor based solution is receiving more attention, a fully operational system is planned to be introduced only by 2035. Until then, it would be beneficial to implement an ACAS II based solution, which is already a tested system and is available for use in this moment, it would only be necessary to add a connection with the autopilot to create a fully autonomous system.
