Abstract

Black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) regeneration on different microsites following ice storm disturbance in Rožnik |
Secondary abstract: |
In 2014 Slovenia was caught up in a strong ice storm. In order to study the newly formed specimens and the vegetative sprouting of black locust we performed a research on Rožnik in July 2015, right after the storm-affected areas have been rehabilitated. Due to large presence of bare mineral soil the sample plots used in our research were in fact the eradicated trees. On distance 1.5 meters from the sample plots we set up a control plot with the purpose to check and follow the rejuvenation process of black locust in areas with less bare mineral soil. Our research confirmed more black locust than indigenous tree species near adult felled trees. Black locust it could also be found in areas with less exposure to bare mineral soil. The species has the ability to spread widely, in our case even 25-30 meters from the seed trees, the density of black locust specimens seems to decrease with growth or altitude classes. The black locust is an extremely adaptable species with an amazing rejuvenation and spreading ability to brownfields affected by sleet. |
