Abstract

V empiričnem delu smo predstavili rezultate naše raziskave, ki smo jih pridobili s pomočjo sekundarne analize podatkov raziskave Slovenska mladina 2018/2019 (n = 1014) in delno strukturiranih intervjujev (n = 20).

Secondary title: Volunteering and employability of young people in slovenia
Secondary abstract: The purpose of the master's thesis is to determine if a correlation between volunteering and a higher rate of employability of young people exists. In the theoretical part, we described the general theoretical bases on volunteering and employability of young people as well as provided a focused overview of previous research on the correlation between volunteering and employability. In the empirical part, we presented the results of our study, which were obtained through the secondary analysis of data collected in the context of the Youth Study Slovenia 2018/2019 (n = 1014), and in part through structured interviews (n = 20). We found that approximately 11 % of young people in Slovenia frequently or very frequently engage in volunteering. They primarily decide to volunteer due to personal reasons (professional references, new experiences, expertise) and less due to altruistic reasons. Those who are engaged in volunteering mostly report positive effects of the voluntary work (personal and professional growth, new experiences and expansion of the social network). We also found a positive correlation between volunteering and better employability in our research sample. The results of the interviews indicate that volunteering can have a direct or indirect impact on gaining employment. In the first case, this can mean employment at the institution, where young people did voluntary work, while in the second, employment can be a consequence of experience that a young person acquired through volunteering. The results of analyses indicate that the probability of unemployment is slightly lower in individuals that engage in volunteering. However, the assumption that volunteers are more likely to be employed in their field of professional education was not confirmed.
