Abstract

Secondary title: Psychosocial Risk Factors in the Workplace as Employee Mental Health Predictors
Secondary abstract: The correlation between psychosocial risk factors in the workplace and experiencing stress as well as the impact of such on the mental and physical wellbeing of employees is emphasized by numerous studies in the field of health and safety in the workplace. The present work focuses on the predictive value of specific psychosocial risk factors on employee mental health. The aim of the study was to determine whether the presence of specific psychosocial characteristics of the workplace is reflected in the mental health of employees. The study surveyed 199 employees across various types of professional occupations with the help of different questionnaires: The Questionnaire of Jobs Demands and Resources; The Workplace Uncertainty Questionnaire; The Work-Family Conflict Questionnaire; and Mental Health Inventory MHI-18, which was translated from English to Slovenian for the purpose of this study. The results show that the most important negative predictors of employee mental health include the work-family conflict caused by work, followed by the time conflict between work and family, caused by work and workplace uncertainty. The study further establishes that work colleague support is a vital positive predictor of employee mental health.
