Secondary title: | Challenges of protected area management: The example of Landscape park Debeli rtič |
Secondary abstract: | Areas of nature protection are one of the socio-spatial measures for reaching sustainable environmental management in the postmodern era. Because of many different space uses intertwining in protected areas, their coordination can present a challenge for their managers and inhabitants. Such example of a conflicting use is tourism as a consumption of space on one side and the status of a protected area as an environmental measure on the other. In the theorethical and conceptual framework I connect the modern understanding of environment and space with the tourism industry and nature conservation. Later on I present my own research of the Landscape park Debeli rtič and how to harmonize tourism activity with environmentalism in and around the park area. The results and findings show the dynamics of protected area management and offer an insight to the meaning of the lanscape park for the quality of life in Ankaran. I present the main management challenges and strategies for their mastery and I find how different residents react to the status of the landscape park. In my work I explain why strategic management of the chosen landscape park and other areas of protection is crucial for the successful transition to a sustainable and quality society. |
