Abstract

Secondary title: Creation of 3D geometric models of liver
Secondary abstract: The liver is an organ in the human body with exceptional regeneration properties. In order to predict the regeneration rate after surgery we would need geometric models of liver on which we could perform simulations. We tried to create these models by 3D scanning vascular corrosion casts of liver and by segmentation of magnetic resonance and computed tomography images. Creation of models by 3D scanning was not possible and the models acquired by segmentation varied in quality. The factors that affected quality of the final models the most were image resolution and colour homogeneity.
