magistrsko delo
Abstract
Magistrsko delo obravnava sodne tolmače v Sloveniji, ki so nemalokrat posredniki v kazenskih postopkih. V nadaljevanju sta predstavljena projekt TransLaw Exploring Legal Interpreting Service Paths and Transcultural Law Clincs for persons suspected or accused of crime in izbirni predmet, ki bo študentom omogočil vpogled v delo sodnih tolmačev. Ker je sodno tolmačenje tesno povezano s projektom TransLaw, smo v magistrskem delu ugotavljali, kaj so TransLaw klinike in kakšni so glavni cilji projekta.

Court interpreting in criminal proceedings of foreign citizens in the case of Slovenia |
Secondary abstract: |
The master's thesis focuses on the role of court interpreters in Slovenia in criminal proceedings. We were interested in the nature of their work, what problems they are facing and how many court interpreters we actually have for each foreign language. Additionally, we were interested in their relationship with the professionals who work at the court. Theoretical part of the thesis defines the concepts of interpretation and court interpretation, their subgenres and includes a brief historical development. An important part of a court interpreter's everyday life is interpreting in the court, that is why we investigated how they are involved in the court process. Important conclusions, which refer to the legislation and a current position of court interpreters in Slovenia, are also listed. Furthermore, we presented the TransLaw project and the transcultural law clinic, which was implemented during the project as an elective course and which will provide the students with an insight into the court interpreter's work. We also described the main work stages and goals of the project. The research in the empirical part focuses mainly on the students of translation studies at the Faculty of Arts in Maribor. We have conducted a survey questionnaire in which we wanted to assess students' experiences in translating and interpreting legal texts and figure out whether they would be interested in working in a court as part of the elective course. Respondents assessed the elective subject as being useful, because it would enable their participation in hearings, which of course is not feasible in the context of lectures. |
