Abstract

Secondary title: Absenteeism at work in the case of companies from the Savinja Region
Secondary abstract: The problem of absenteeism cannot be ignored. Companies report that the percentage of sick leave is increasing, despite better living conditions and health care for the population. Companies are trying various methods and approaches to reduce sick leave, but they do not seem to be completely successful. Absenteeism is influenced by various motivational factors, organizational climate and culture, relations between employees and the attitude of management towards employees. Reasons could also be sought in employee burnout. Sick leave is a high cost for the company and the state on an annual basis, as they have to provide compensation for salaries during sick leave. We will have to pay much more attention to this topic in the future, as managing absenteeism and reducing burnout will be one of the key problems of the future. The theoretical part of the thesis is supported by an empirical study of cases of various companies from the Savinjska region and their opinions and measures regarding absenteeism. Through research questions, we found that women are more often absent than men in the companies in question and that one of the key reasons for their absence is the care of family members. We also found that the age of employees and the type of job affect the absenteeism of employees. Furthermore, companies manage and reduce sick leave mostly with help of monetary incentives.
