Abstract

Secondary title: Functionality of vital signs measurement systems in older people: scoping study
Secondary abstract: Old age brings with it many chronic diseases that affect the quality of life of the older people, so the needs for different care systems are becoming greater. The aim of this research was to find out the most common chronic diseases where the systems for vital signs measurement are used, as well as to determine which vital signs are most commonly associated with chronic diseases and which system for measuring vital signs is most common in the older people. The research is based on the methodology of scoping study, where suitable papers for this study were found in the bibliographic-textual database ScienceDirect. The search process involved five phases which helped us find the relevant papers. Based on the examination, the main conclusion to be drawn from this study is that heart disease is the most common chronic disease using systems for measuring vital signs. Furthermore, the study shows that blood pressure is the most commonly measured vital sign, and that telemedicine is the most commonly used system for vital signs measurement. The findings obtained can promote the use of remote monitoring, as we have found out that remote monitoring contributes to greater independence of older people while reducing the possibility of health complications and hospitalization.
