Secondary title: | Fabrication of lightweight wood composite with 3D formed core |
Secondary abstract: | In recent years there has been increase of interest on market of lightweight wood composites with cores made of metal and synthetic materials. To make these materials is energy inefficient; therefore, we decided to incorporate hard wood and MDF in fabrication of cores, as an alternative to paper honeycomb and other non-wood materials. Different cores were designed using computer engineering program SolidWorks; then boards were fabricated and physically tested for bending and compressing strength. The results of the tests were compared to industrially made lightweight wood panels and have shown that our core could withstand greater loads than paper honeycomb panels. Based on the results the sandwich boards could be used in furniture industry. |
