Abstract

Secondary abstract: In this graduate thesis we try to indicate the connection between two, at first glance, unrelated concepts - racism and organ transplantation. In theory the field of medicine focuses on saving lives in an unbiased manner, but practice proves otherwise - racism in health care exists. Because of the broad nature of the field of medicine as a whole, we focus on the field of organ transplantation within the framework of medicine. In this graduate thesis we strive to show the factors influencing the occurrence of differentiation in organ transplantations, define the nature of these factors (whether they are racist, biological, individual) and determine whether there are individuals among potential organ donors in Slovenia who would be put off from donating an organ to an individual in need, due to the organ recipientʼs race, or any other characteristic. The last-mentioned statement is demonstrated through the case of six interviews conducted with potential organ donors.
