    Abstract

We were establishing the link between the results of determining the adhesion of coating systems obtained by various methods. We applied different coating systems on beech wood samples: water-borne, UV-curing water-borne and polyurethane finishes. To determine the adhesion we used different methods, namely the cross-cut test (SIST EN ISO 2409), and 3 versions of the pull-off test method (SIST EN 4624). The results were compared and statistically analyzed with a Statgraphics Centurion XVI computer program. We conducted a test of variance, after which the results were sorted into homogeneous groups with Duncan's test at the 95 % level of confidence. Comparison of the results obtained by the method of cross-cutting with those obtained by the pull-off test method does not make any sense. However, it is possible to compare the results obtained by the 3 versions of the pull-off test method. The best adhesion strength was achieved with UV-curing finish, followed by the polyurethane coating, and the worst results were obtained with the water-borne system. |
