delo diplomskega projekta

Abstract

Secondary title: Labour market characteristics in the United Kingdom and Germany with focus on empirical analysis of employment function
Secondary abstract: The labour market is a very topical issue nowadays. However, several factors have an impact on employment. Therefore, in our diploma thesis we focused on the econometric analysis of the employment function in two countries. In the first part of the diploma thesis, we described the labour market and its characteristics for both countries, and we also focused on unemployment and employment in both countries. Then we turned to an econometric analysis of the employment function in both countries. First, we graphically analysed the impact of selected variables on employment in each country, and then we estimated three functions for both countries. We selected the most appropriate function in each country by comparing determination coefficients, applying RESET, Chow and Box Cox tests. In the end we checked the validity of the ordinary least squares method’s assumptions for both selected models. In our diploma thesis, we found out that not all assumptions of the ordinary squares method are valid in the estimated employment function for Germany, as multicollinearity and heteroskedasticity are present. As for the employment function for the United Kingdom, we also found out that not all the assumptions of the ordinary least squares method are valid, as multicollinearity is present.
