magistrsko delo
Abstract

Music as propaganda in World War I. and World War II. on the Slovenian territory |
Secondary abstract: |
The world wars of the first half of the 20th century had strong influences on various segments of life that even music could not avoid. The power of music and song was soon realized by military and political strategists who began to use it during wartime for propaganda purposes. Music is a constant companion of man, used at moments of joy and moments of sorrow. The power of music is certainly very strong in a moral sense, which was especially evident in wartime, when people, during difficult times, boost their moral by singing a song. Songs from the period of the First and Second World War, which lived among the Slovenian nation, contain traces of propaganda, whose function is to disseminate information and ideas in order to make them a reality. The gentlest way to do this was through music. Expressing lyrics with melody is more effective than just reading the lyrics. The melody shows the emotions that performers wanted to express or superiors wanted to evoke from performers. The periods of the two wars in the Slovenian territory differ, as do the songs performed during those periods. The thesis illustrates the propaganda that was used and found in the songs of the Slovenian nation and shows the differences that occurred among the Slovenian nation during a period of thirty-one years. On the one hand, in the period of the First World War, there is a unified Slovenian nation that fights for one goal - the defence of our own homeland, and on the other hand, the Second World War takes a critical view of the ambivalence of the Slovenian people. The songs present the history of the Slovenian people in the first half of the 20th century on a more intimate level, which is often ignored. |
