Abstract

Secondary title: Effect of modification of a polyacrylate binder on properties of a cured coating
Secondary abstract: The aim of this project was the development of a cheap polyacrylate binder and wood coatings with a high protective efficiency. We also researched the properties of existing water repellent coatings, which contain silanes. Modified resins, based on a polyacrylate, would represent a more affordable starting point for the basic raw material for a binder, which would be of a higher quality. We also studied modification of low-cost raw materials which contain silanes, including evaluation of modification conditions, as well as chemical and rheological changes of the silanised resins. We have shown that the modification of the polyacrylate resin with silanes is possible and that such resins could be used as binders for the production of surface coatings, which are of a sufficient quality to protect wood in outdoor conditions. In the laboratory we carried out the measurements, with the purpose of the comparison of the tested surface coatings before and after artificial accelerated ageing. The properties of the samples were determined in accordance with the standard and non-standard methods. We found out, that it is possible to silanise the resins. We achieved the best results with the resin 98, with the majority of measurements was carried out. We demonstrated that the addition of a silane in most cases leads to the higher quality of the coating.
