Abstract

Secondary title: Design of steering mechanism elements for formula student race car
Secondary abstract: In this thesis it is shown the construction of the steering mechanism elements for formula student race car with topology optimization and finite elements method (FEM). First part of the thesis is about the steering housing, which is made with casting of titanium, so that gives us a space to create topology optimization of the part. Second part of the thesis is about steering shaft which is made of carbon fiber. Because of the used material for shaft, the special inserts were necessary so they were also constructed. Assembly of steearing shaft was also checked with finite element method because of finding optimal number of plys and the direction of the fibers. Also Tsai Hill factor was observed.
