diplomsko delo
Abstract
Metode dela: Iskanje literature je potekalo na spletnih bazah PubMed in Google Scholar v angleškem jeziku z uporabo iskalnega niza »(anterior cruciate ligament) AND (knee orthosis OR knee brace)«.

Knee bracing due to anterior cruciate ligament injury |
Secondary abstract: |
Introduction: Knee is the most commonly injured joint of a human body. With high incidence there is higher/greater need for knee aids, which would reduce the chance of re-injury or further development of a knee injury. The use of a knee orthosis could be the accessory to limit and reduce the rate of knee injuries. There are four types of knee braces (prophylactic, functional, rehabilitative and patello-femoral knee brace). Purpose: The purpose of this diploma work was to present the advantages and disadvantages of using a knee orthosis after the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament based on a review of professional and scientific literature. Methods: The literature search was conducted using the online databases PubMed and Google Scholar in English. We used the key words »(anterior cruciate ligament) AND (knee Orthosis OR knee brace)«. The articles included in this diploma work were publised in the last 10 years that included the use of a knee brace after the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament. Results: Nine articles describing advantages and disadvatages of using a knee brace after the anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction were included in our study. The researches had divided opinions and results, as some discovered changes, while other did not. Discussion and conclusion: Knee braces are increasingly used after the anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, although some researches advise against it. Knee braces prevent certain movements that could cause re-injury and consequently prolong rehabilitation. Choosing the right orthosis is crucial, as every orthosis has its own purpose. In some activities orthosis reduces the speed of movement, therefore altering the gait cycle and other physical activities, but limits potentially dangerous movements. In order to be able to more precisely determine in which case the use of an orthosis is recommended additional longitudinal studies with larger sample should be conducted in the future. |
