Abstract

Secondary title: Economic growth and the indebtedness of countries
Secondary abstract: Through the last ten years, the indications of national debt decelerating economic growth of a country have risen significantly, meaning that the excessive borrowing can result in regression of country’s development. In the diploma thesis, we researched the connection between the national debt and economic growth. We also examined the economic growth per capita in five developed countries and five developing countries. First, we distinguished classical, kenyensian, neoclassical theory and theory of endogenous economic growth and defined their weaknesses. In same manner, we listed possible national debt’s influences on the economic growth and named the factors affecting the long-term sustainability of national debt. We also consulted various studies exploring the effect of national debt on economic growth. In our diploma thesis, we established that most countries analysed, bear statistically significant impact of national debt on the economic growth. Despite all that, the effect of power, as well as debtor limits, when it comes to national debt’s influence on economic growth, tend to be higher in the developed countries.
