Secondary title: | Dynamics of water droplets on hydrophobic copper surfaces |
Secondary abstract: | In recent years, hydrophobic and superhydrophobic surfaces have been the subject of several studies, as they have the potential for applications in various fields due to their self-cleaning and water repelling properties. In this work, we analyzed the properties of the etched copper hydrophobic surfaces, determined the efficiency of droplet rebound and executed the size separation of droplets on a copper hydrophobic mesh. Hydrophobic surfaces were fabricated by etching and coating the surfaces with a solution of stearic acid. The measurements were taken by capturing images with a high-speed camera and processed in the MATLAB computing environment. We discovered that the rebound efficiency depends on the velocity at which the droplet falls on the surface and on the surface fabrication process. Droplet rebound efficiency can even exceed 50 % in cases of low impact speed. We showed that proposed hydrophobization process can be used to modify copper meshes in order to develop drop size separation devices. |
