diplomsko delo

Abstract

V diplomskem delu sem raziskovala, kako razumejo staranje in starost ljudje srednje generacije, ter prisotnost strahu pred staranjem pri srednji generaciji. Zanimalo me je, kaj bi jim pomagalo zmanjšati strah pred staranjem. Raziskovala sem, kaj najbolj oblikuje njihov pogled in predstavo o staranju in starosti ter na kakšen način se na svojo starost pripravljajo. V teoretičnem delu sem obravnavala staranje in razumevanje starosti v sodobni družbi. Predstavila sem prisotnost gerontofobije, stereotipov in tabuja starosti. Starost razumejo stereotipno. Pogled in predstavo o starosti najbolj oblikujejo lastne izkušnje s staranjem njihovih staršev in izkušnje njihovih prijateljev in znancev.

Secondary title: The understanding of old age from the perspective of middle-age generation
Secondary abstract: In my graduation thesis, I researched the understanding of old age from the middle-age generation's perspective and the presence of fear from aging in the middle-age generation. I wanted to ascertain what would help them reduce their fear of aging. I researched what affects people's perspective on aging and old age and how they prepare themselves for old age. In the theoretical part, I talked about aging and understanding of old age in modern society. I presented the presence of gerontophobia and stereotypes and taboo about old age. I continued by describing the importance of preparation for old age, retirement, and contribution of social work to people's preparation for old age. I made a qualitative research that included 10 individuals of the middle-age generation, aged between 50 and 60 years. My conclusion was that people have negative feelings when thinking about their aging. The most common is the fear of getting old. People do not want to think about their aging. Furthermore, they drive fear out of their consciousness. They have a stereotypical view of aging. Mostly, people's point of view is shaped by their parent's experiences with aging and by experiences of their friends' acquaintances. In the future, the awareness of preparation for old age and retirement should be raised. This topic needs more attention to the social work profession whose concepts could support people in their preparation for old age at the micro-, meso-, and macro-levels.
