Abstract

Efficiency of interdisciplinary teams in slovenian health care system |
Secondary abstract: |
An interdisciplinary health care team, which is composed of experts from different fields in health care and social welfare, is formed based on a patient's medical condition and needs. There is an interdisciplinary atmosphere in effective interdisciplinary health care teams, which is reflected in the communication between team members, mutual support and assistance, identification with common values as well as in taking responsibility for one's own work and the ultimate success of the whole team. It encourages creativity and innovation, the sharing of knowledge between team members and the awareness of interdependence while taking into account an individual's autonomy.
In order to check whether Slovenian interdisciplinary teams are effective in their work, a quantitative research survey was conducted at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana. The data were analysed statistically using the SPSS software. We found that there are no statistically significant differences between professional titles in terms of the opinion on the effectiveness of interdisciplinary teams and that members of an interdisciplinary team perceive interdisciplinary teamwork as a process method for performing their work. In their opinion, it is an important element of efficiency along with leadership and communication. There are no statistically significant differences between hospitals regarding the view that the interdisciplinary teamwork method represents added value for the outcome on patient care, staff, and the organisation as a whole.
We propose the implementation of the contents of interdisciplinary education in study programmes for health professions, as it has proven to be an example of good practice abroad. |
