Abstract

Secondary title: Analysis of the situation after the excavation of sediment on the section of the river Ščavnica
Secondary abstract: Due to increasing impacts on climate changes and human irresponsible handling with nature it is good to know the potential risks that can be brought by weather extremes. In our case, these are the risks of flooding which is the most common natural occurrence in the cases of heavy rainfall in our natural environment. By proper rehabilitating and maintenance of dangerous watercourse sections we can alleviate or even prevent potential natural disasters. The diploma thesis includes an analysis of the reasonableness and rationality of maintenance work on the section of the river Ščavnica. We compared results with the software tool HEC-RAS with situation before performed maintenance work and after the maintenance work. Compared results obtained from the software proved, that the maintenance intervention of river Ščavnica section was a rational decision and that it had a positive effect on the river itself. The river is now able to withstand a greater load and is consequently less dangerous to the environment in the event of weather extremes.
