Abstract

Secondary title: Metal adsorption on microplastics
Secondary abstract: The increased production of plastics led to a high occurrence of plastics in the environment. Due to various environmental factors, plastics can disintegrate into smaller fragments called microplastics. Besides microplastics, many other organic and inorganic pollutants can be found in the water environment. Metals are among the most important inorganic pollutants and enter the aquatic environment from various sources e.g. agriculture, industry, traffic. When metals and microplastics coexist in aquatic environments, it is inevitable that they will interact. One of the mechanisms that prevails in such situations is metal adsorption on microplastics. Besides the properties of both microplastics and metals, other physical parameters such as pH and salinity also influence the adsorption process.
