Abstract

Secondary title: Emotions in selected modern Slovenian picture books
Secondary abstract: In my diploma work, I dealt with the role and meaning of emotions in picture books. I analyzed five selected quality Slovenian picture books and, with the help of text and illustrations, found that emotions have an extraordinary meaning in a child's life. Children encounter a range of emotions in everyday life, but often do not know how to respond to them and how to express them in society. Picture books are the first book that a child gets acquainted with within the preschool period. The characters in the picture books present to the children the spectrum of different emotions that children encounter daily. It is with the help of a picture book that a child learns and develops the emotional intelligence, empathy, and social skills that are essential for his development. In early childhood, it is essential for a child to present the world in which he lives in an understandable way through text and illustrations, and at the same time to educate him.
