Secondary title: | Comparison of Slovenian spoken language and Slovenian sign language word formation |
Secondary abstract: | The thesis Comparison of Slovenian spoken language and Slovenian sign language word formation presents key elements in both language systems that are or may be important indicators of compounded forms. Both language systems are subject to a parallel analysis based on a text on traffic and video recordings of ten Slovenian Sign Language users. Material on Slovene word formation is presented and categorised into individual types with the help of examples. Compounding and derivation appear to be possible processes in sign formation. Slovene word formation is based on word formation types as presented by prof. Ada Vidovič Muha, PhD. The section on sign formation relies on the knowledge on the topic in the English material by Josep Quer and Joseph C. Hill. The thesis is mainly focused on indicators that may help in determining whether a sign is compounded or not and on the modest outlines of the possible typology of compounding. |
