Abstract

Secondary title: Bottle caps as tools for developing mathematical skills of a preschool child
Secondary abstract: The diploma thesis theoretically, practically and empirically describes plastic bottle caps that can serve as didactic tools in mathematics, activities and plays with a group of pre-school children. The theoretical part presents how important early education in mathematics is for the development of their mathematical skills. The purpose of the research is to present the use of plastic bottle caps as didactic tools for developing mathematical skills of pre-school children through activities and games including mathematical content. We aim to determine whether by using simple plastic material such as a bottle cap one can develop basic mathematical concepts (organising and sorting, relations, symmetry and arithmetic). In the empirical part, the results of the research carried out in the kindergarten with a group of 38 children aged 4 through 5 were presented. In the practical part, the initial observation to check their prior knowledge was performed and after that the final observation of every child with seven activities and two plays was performed; based on the latter, the improvement of children in learning mathematical content through activities was assessed. We determined that with a didactic use of the bottle cap through activities and play a pre-school child can develop mathematical skills.
