Abstract

Secondary title: Importance of physical activity for people with depression
Secondary abstract: Depression represents a global public health problem. An individual can help himself with preventive measures before the onset and during the development of the disease. One of these measures is physical activity. The aim of the thesis was to investigate the importance of physical activity on depression in the adult population. We used a descriptive method to systematically review scientific and professional literature in international databases (EBSCOhost, PubMed and Google Scholar). We used inclusion and exclusion criteria to include articles of which we had free access to and which were published between 2010 and 2020.Researchers agree that physical activity has a significant impact on depression as a part of treatment. We discovered that patients who performed physical activity according to global recommendations had a reduced chance of developing depression. Its involvement in the process of treatment, however, has a significant antidepressant effect, as it relieves and reduces symptoms. As part of the beneficial effects on depression and mental health in general, it would be important to emphasize and promote the importance of physical activity for a bigger population more often. It works as a form of self – help that is accessible to everyone, not depending on the cost of treatment. It also has a positive effect on an individual's social integration when participating in various group exercises.
