Abstract

Z leti v svojo komunikacijo vpletajo vedno več simbolike in simbolne igre.

Secondary title: How well pupils of 5th and 9th grades understand idioms in texts of Slovene popular music
Secondary abstract: Idiomatics is a field the basic unit of which is an idiom. Idioms are a type of set phrases and their meaning is not deductible from their constituents. Metaphors are the main stylistical and rhetorical figure of literary texts. Metaphor means the use of words or phrases that are in contrast with their actual and the most logical meaning. According to the modern theorisation of metaphors, they are perceived as a cognitive process. Throughout their speech development, children start to recognise figures of speech when they are aged six. As they grow older, they include more and more of symbolism in their communication. The aim of the research is to determine whether gender and age of pupils have an impact on how well they understand idioms, present in the texts of Slovene popular music. The research, which included 40 pupils from the 5th and 9th grades, was conducted by carrying out a semi-structured interview. The result analysis showed that gender is an important factor when it comes to understanding idioms, as girls mostly understand idioms better than boys. Age turned out to be a significant factor as well, as older pupils understand idioms better than younger pupils.
