diplomsko delo visokošolskega študijskega programa Varnost in policijsko delo
Abstract
Serijski in množični umori spremljajo človeštvo od začetka.

In comparison of serial and mass killers |
Secondary abstract: |
Serial and mass murders have always been happening. They have been committed in the past, but did not get such media attention as they do today. The perpetrators of serial and mass murders became interesting to the media because their actions were unusual and therefore interesting for the public. If we compare new and old continents, America and Europe, we find that the number of mass and serial murders is much higher in America, but of course there are cases of mass and serial murders in Europe as well. Some of them have been receiving a lot of media attention, others less so.
Serial and mass murders are defined as multiple homicides, since the perpetrators murder several people at the same time. It should be noted, however, that criminology distinguishes between these two terms. Serial murder is a series of multiple murders committed by perpetrators over an extended period of time, which can last a few days, months, or several years. Mass murders are a series of murders in which several people are murdered over a period of a few hours.
In the dissertation, I focused on serial and mass murderers. Definitions of both groups of murderers, personality characteristics of both, and typology of serial and mass murderers are presented. Then I described motives for the actions of serial and mass murderers and, based on the examples, tried to determine how serial and mass murderers choose their victims. In the conclusion, I provided some examples from both groups of murderers. With a literature review, I tried to determine what were the factors that influenced murderers that decided to commit murder. I tried to determine what led an individual to murder, whether they had a difficult childhood, mental health problems, or whether their actions were influenced by other factors. |
