Secondary abstract: | Using corpus-based analysis of contemporary Slovene, examples are found of multi-word expressions, the appearance of which was influenced by the events of 1918, and in selected cases we trace the century of language use back to its source. The cases of prva svetovna vojna (First World War) and španska gripa (Spanish flu) are examined to ascertain if the historical event and the use of the expression connected with it were simultaneous or not. The research shows that important historical events are an important source of new multi-word expressions whose use is not necessarily contemporaneous with the unfolding of the event itself. |
