Abstract

Secondary title: Classification of Torrential Dams with a case study
Secondary abstract: Slovenian landscape typically consists of mountains and hills that are intertwined with river valleys and basins. Erosion and torrents indirectly and directly threaten approximately 237,000 ha of territory due to the relief and geological diversity as well as the climatic conditions and the landscape management methods. Various measures can be taken to improve security with hazardous torrential activities and decrease the danger. The most effective method for torrent regulation is the use of transverse structures, which are numerous and have different functions. Because of that, this MA thesis contains a classification of torrential barriers with the focus on their purpose, construction materials and the examples of use. Firstly, a systematic overview of protective structures is presented. Secondly, the establishment and construction of the protective structures are described as well as the planning and calculation bases. Approaches to the analysis of the functioning of transverse structures with equations for a simplified hydraulic calculation are also defined. Lastly, on the basis of a conceptual design, an application of knowledge in a reallife situation is presented.
