Abstract

V raziskovalnem delu sem analizirala intervjuje socialnih oskrbovalk v SVZ Taber in njihovih nadrejenih, koordinatork, s katerimi neposredno sodelujejo.

Secondary title: Situation of home care workers conducting home and social care for seniors on behalf of retirement home Taber
Secondary abstract: In this masterʹs thesis I have focused on service of home care and the labourers that carry it out. Theoretical part comprises content about ageing population which is becoming a key element of society. Emerging long-term care is now a European Unionʹs formal response to a faced problems with population that steadily grows older. The goal is to make a move from institutionalised social care to home care, where clients are assisted directly at their homes by care givers. I have thoroughly described development of this service in Slovenia, legislative acts which define proper deployment and introduced required job position along with the necessary supervision. In the empirical research I have analysed the interviews of care givers employed by retirement home Taber, along-so with their superiors and coordinators that manage this service. I have compared the circumstances and extent of their work and investigated reasons for conflicts and their ideas for improvements (work hours, salary, interpersonal relationships and stress at work). I have also somewhat considered utilisation of principles of social work for coordinators. With help from the participants I have obtained results which led me to better understanding of needs and problems of both employer and employee. That resulted in new suggestions such as better introduction of work for both parties, reduction of stand-by work (on call) and reasonable salary bonuses. All of the above would greatly improve motivation at work. This is definitely a service which will inevitably expand in the future and therefore must be improved in several ways, because in regards to todayʹs way of life most of EUʹs ageing population will be in need of care givers personal assistance in some way soon.
