Abstract
Najbolj so odstopali juvenilni osebki medtem ko pri adultnih in senilnih osebkih ni prihajalo do značilnih razlik v obliki spodnje čeljustnice.

Postnatal development of the pine vole Microtus subterraneus geometric morphometric approach |
Secondary abstract: |
Using the methods of geometrics morphometrics, we analyzed the morphological variability of the mandible of the European pine vole (Microtus subterraneus). We analyzed and evaluated the putative phenomenom of sexual dimorphism and variability in size and shape during ontogenetic development. The research material included 236 mandibles of the specimens breed in vitro in the Charles University in Prague. Because no secondary sexual dimorphism was detected in size or shape of the mandible, all analyses were conducted on pooled sexes. Size and shape of the mandible changed during the ontogenetic development. The greatest level of development was detected during the first 60 days of life. Afterwards, the growth was steady and constant, while shape showed no further change. We confirmed significant differences in size between age groups. Juvenile specimens had the smallest mandibles which grew at constant pace throughout the entire span of life. The shape of the mandible varied according to age groups. Variability in shape was the greatest amoung juvenile specimens. Meanwhile there was no significant shape difference between adults and senile specimens. Juvenile and adult voles showed shape differences in both major regions of the mandible, the alveolar and the posterior region, respectively. Ontogenetic allometry retrieved close correlation between the mandible shape and size. The relationship was more or less linear in all age groups. |
