Abstract

Vrednosti selena v amnijski tekočini v skupini s SGA novorojenci so bile statistično značilno nižje kot v skupini z AGA (4,8 ± 1,9 µg/L napram 5,6 ± 2,5 µg/L (p = 0,017).

Secondary title: Association of selenium levels in amniotic fluid correlate with Small-For-Gestational Age Newborns and chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus
Secondary abstract: This prospective, single center study investigated the relationships between selenium concentrations in amniotic fluid and pregnancy outcomes. 327 samples of amniotic fluid were evaluated. The number of normal live newborns was 310, 267 (86.1%) newborns were assigned as appropriate for gestational age (AGA) and 43 (13.8%) newborns were diagnosed small for gestational age (SGA). Patients with SGA newborns had significantly lower mean values of amniotic fluid concentrations of selenium compared to AGA newborns (4.8 ± 1.9 µg/L versus 5.6 ± 2.5 µg/L (p = 0.017). In 17 (5.2 %) cases, chromosomal abnormalities were found. Mean values of selenium concentrations in cases with chromosomal abnormalities were 5.5 ± 2.3 µg/L.
