Abstract

Secondary title: Sustainable use of sewage sludge from the dairy industry
Secondary abstract: Waste sludge from waste water treatment of the dairy industry has the potential to produce added value raw material from waste sludge. Based on European and Slovenian legislation of the waste regulation, waste may lose its waste status under certain when it is recycled or recovered otherwise. The possibilities of using waste sludge are in agriculture (fertilizer), for the possibility of composting purposes and biogas production, as a supplement to animal nutrition (not allowed), energy recovery by incineration. All possibilities have in common that waste sludge should not exceed the limit values for heavy metals. After reviewing the legislation, there is a possibility that waste sludge will lose its waste status and can be used for composting and biogas purposes.
