Abstract

Secondary abstract: The final thesis considers the development of contemporary graphics in Slovenia through the Slovenian International Biennial of Graphic Arts. It begins with the portrayal of the development of Slovenian graphic arts exposing crucial individuals and events, who contributed greatly to its development. The strating points were found in the pre-war graphics and the establishment of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design Ljubljana. Furthermore, the key points were also found in Graphic School Ljubljana as well as the International Biennial of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana. The latter was thoroughly studies with the particular interest in the changes that have occured over the years. We studied the Biennial from the 20th edition and focused on the development of graphic arts, graphic techniques and graphic matrix. The research led us to the assumption that due to the development of digital media the design of the Biennial needed to be reconsidered. By doing so, the question that arises is whether the tradition of graphic arts and graphic techniques is still alive. Our purpose is also to find out what the current role of the matrix is, as we presume that its use and conception have changed. The concluding part of the thesis shows a personal view on the contemporary graphic creation. Using graphics created by the use of traditional graphic techniques, we wish to direct the viewer's eye in the research of contemporary graphic arts.
