magistrsko delo
Alja Grašič (Author), Franci Lazarini (Mentor)

Abstract

Secondary abstract: This master's thesis primarily focuses on the Competition for the New Wing of the National Gallery of Slovenia announced in 1989. At the beginning this master's thesis explains the reason why the competition is of high importance for Slovenians and the development of the National Gallery. Following is the discussion of the competition, to which previous researchers have not attributed any greater importance. The central part of the master's thesis is the detailed discussion of the tender plans - attached is the pictorial material of the more important floor plans, then the classification of the plans in the opus of the architects, and the comparison of the award-winning and executive plans of the architect Edvard Ravnikar (1907-1993). Also presented are significant Slovenian architects of the 20th century who took part in the competition, as well as their architectural solutions, which stylistically vary from modernism to postmodernism. Because of the insufficient research work of the tender in the art-history literature, the master's thesis answers many questions that have not yet been answered.
