Abstract

Prudent and efficient utilization of renewable energy sources is needed in order to meet demands from European directive on the energy performance of buildings and to comply with Paris agreement for global clean energy transition. This urge Europe towards several incentives among with subsidies to renovate the building sector where 30 % of EUʼs final energy use is used for heating and cooling of residential building stock where majority of buildings are only partially renovated. Within present paper the toolkit with holistic approach to energy retrofit of residential buildings and its energy performance optimization is presented which is developed under EU funded project entitled HEART. Objectives of this project is step towards sustainability where thermal energy storage has a great role in effectiveness of the system. With integrating phase change materials in sensible thermal energy storage a higher energy density of thermal storage unit is achievable what is presented in present paper.
