Abstract

Metodologija: Izvedli smo sistematičen pregled, analizo in sintezo znanstvene in strokovne literature s področja vpliva koronavirusa na duševno zdravje splošne populacije. Iskano literaturo smo pridobili v podatkovnih bazah PubMed in CINAHL s pomočjo zastavljenih vključitvenih in izključitvenih kriterijev.

Secondary title: Mental health of general population during the covid-19 pandemic
Secondary abstract: Theoretical background: COVID-19 is a contagious disease that has brought the world to the center of a global pandemic and is leaving the consequences on the mental health of the general population. The purpose of the final work was to explore the mental state of the general population during COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology: We performed a systematic review, analysis and synthesis of the scientific and professional literature about the impact of coronavirus on the mental health of the general population. The relevant literature was obtained in PubMed and CINAHL databases with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Following the guidelines, we showed the literature search with PRISMA diagram and descriptively presented results. Results: 16 articles were included in the analysis. We found out that the health of the general population at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic is aggravated and the mental disorders have increased around the world. Women, younger population, students and people with high education face a higher rate of negative mental consequences during the time of the pandemic. The authors emphasize the negative impact of the media and the increased use of psychoactive substances, as well as the increased suicide rate in men. Discussion and Conclusion: During the COVID-19 pandemic we found a high presence of mental disorders in the general population, such as depression, generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and various forms of psychological stress. The COVID-19 pandemic does not choose individuals based on gender, race or financial status, but effects all the inhabitants of our planet. It would make sense to conduct a research in the field of mental health among the general population in the Slovenian environment, as the field is unexplored. More emphasis should be placed on the promotion of mental health, identifying the causes that negatively affect people's mental health, and on finding the appropriate solutions and guidelines for their elimination.
