Kje je bila domovina aleksandrink?

Abstract

Prispevek se osredotoča na izjemen zgodovinski fenomen slovenskega izseljevanja, ki ga predstavlja pojav aleksandrinstva, in približa glavne vzroke, zakaj so se žene in dekleta odločile za odhod od doma ter za poklice, ki so jih opravljale v Egiptu. V nadaljevanju je pozornost usmerjena k vplivu aleksandrink na družino delodajalca in njihovim edinstvenim lastnostim, zaradi katerih so bile v Egiptu še posebej zaželene. Predstavljena je tudi materialna kulturna dediščina, ki ima pomembno vlogo pri ohranjanju in utrjevanju spominov na aleksandrinke in omogoča edinstven pogled v življenje slovenskih žena v Egiptu in na Goriškem. Cilj prispevka je predstaviti aleksandrinstvo kot pomemben košček slovenske zgodovine in hkrati poskusiti odgovoriti na vprašanje, kje je bila domovina aleksandrink.

Secondary abstract:	This contribution looks at the exceptional historical phenomenon of Slovene emigration represented by the "Alexandrian women", presenting the main reasons why Slovene women and girls decided to relocate to Alexandria in Egypt and what work they did there. The focus then shifts to the influence of these women on their employers' families and the special qualities that led them to be much sought after in Egypt. The paper also presents the material cultural heritage that has a significant role in preserving and strengthening the memory of the Alexandrian women, as well as facilitating a unique insight into the lives of Slovene women in Egypt and in the Gorizia region. The aim is to present the Alexandrian women as an important fragment of Slovene history and at the same time to try to answer the question as to which country was these women's homeland.
