Abstract

The life quality of the elderly in their home environment |
Secondary abstract: |
Introduction: As the population ages, health systems are increasingly aware of the need to better address chronic health problems. There is a considerable body of research proving the important contribution of graduate nurses in community health care in managing chronic problems, illness, and improving the quality of life of the elderly. The purpose was to determine the quality of life of the elderly in the home environment.
Methods: A quantitative research methodology was used, the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire, the Katz Index (ADL) questionnaire, an instrument for assessing independence in basic life activities of the elderly and The Lawton (IADL) Scale were used as research instruments. to assess independence in carrying out activities in everyday life. The research sample included 80 elderly people treated in community care and 80 elderly people without this treatment.
Results: Higher independence of the elderly in performing basic life activities is positively associated with the quality of life of the elderly (ρ = 0.684, p < 0.001) and with the quality of life (ρ = 0.583, p < 0.001). The difference in quality of life is not statistically significant between the group of elderly people under treatment in community care and those who are not (U = 2710, p = 0.059), but there is a statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of health satisfaction (U = 2140, p < 0.001).
Discussion and conclusion: The results and their comparison showed that it is important that graduate nurses in community care provide quality, complex and needs-oriented services for the elderly. We also found that the elderly are mostly satisfied with their quality of life. |
